ART is presented by special arrangement with Broadway Licensing, LLC, servicing the Dramatists Play Service collection (www.dramatists.com). The play was produced on Broadway by David Pugh, Sean Connery, and Joan Cullman, March 1, 1998.

RedBird's encore presentation of ART is part of Live at Bay 7, a multi-disciplinary festival running January-March 2026 in an exciting new venue at the American Tobacco Campus in downtown Durham.  The nine-week series showcases live music, dance, theater, and storytelling from some of the Triangle’s most dynamic artists and ensembles. If Live at Bay 7 is successful, it could mark the launch of a new long-term performance space which will benefit theater makers, theater-goers, and performers of all stripes.  Click here for more information on Live at Bay 7.

BIOGRAPHIES

JJ Bauer (Stage Manager/Dramaturg)

JJ is delighted to work again with longtime friends at Redbird Theater Company. She has been a stage manager, props manager, costume designer, set designer, and utterly unwilling actor for various area theater companies, including Deep Dish Theater, Ghost and Spice Productions, NC State Theatrefest, The Open Door Theatre, Street Signs Center for Literature and Performance, and Wordshed Productions.

David Berberian (Yvan)

David Berberian has been a regular on Triangle Stages for over 20 years. He has taken on projects as an actor, director, producer, designer, and set builder with several organizations, including The Juilliard School, The Vineyard Theater, The Minetta Lane Theater, Duke University, Manbites Dog Theater, The Heights Players, StreetSigns Center for Literature and Performance, Piedmont Performance Factory, Deep Dish Theater, Theater Delta, The Justice Theater Project, East Carolina Summer Theater and many more.​ David became a company member at Manbites Dog Theater in Durham beginning in 2001 and remained so until they closed in 2018. He travels the country with Theater Delta, using interactive theater for social change and fostering conversations in our ever-changing world. David serves as an Asst. Manager for Duke Venue and Production Management at Duke University.

Jock Brocki (Marc)

Jock has a 40-year career that spans his dark turn in THE NETHER (ManBites Dog Theater) to light-hearted starring roles such as Luther Billis in SOUTH PACIFIC (Temple Theatre) and Yukon Cornelius in RUDOLPH THE RED-NOSED REINDEER THE MUSICAL (Tuacahn, Utah). Regional credits include A CHRISTMAS CAROL Scrooge, THE SOUND OF MUSIC Captain Von Trapp (Center Theater Company); THE ODD COUPLE alternating Oscar/Felix, DIAL M FOR MURDER, STONES IN HIS POCKETS, CHICAGO (Temple Theatre); MARJORIE PRIME, MR. BURNS, A POST-ELECTRIC PLAY (Manbites Dog Theater); SLEUTH, CAROUSEL (Theatre Raleigh); A DOLL'S HOUSE (Peace College); MURDER AT THE HOWARD JOHNSON'S (NC State); MAMA MIA, A FEW GOOD MEN, BIG RIVER, COMPANY, INHERIT THE WIND (Cape Fear Regional Theater). Jock resides on a small mountaintop outside of Chapel Hill with his wife, Angela.

Derrick Ivey (Serge)

Derrick has worked as an actor, director, choreographer, and designer with dozens of North Carolina theater companies. Previously for RedBird Theater Company, he directed THE TREASURER and THE WOOLGATHERER; designed sets for THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS CAROL, THE TREASURER, A DOLL’S HOUSE, PART 2 and NUMBERS ARE DOWN; and played Mark Rothko in RED. Regional acting credits include WAKEY, WAKEY, …DEATH OF WALT DISNEY, MR. Yasmina Reza (Playwright)

Yasmina Reza is a French playwright and novelist, based in Paris, whose works have all been multi-award-winning, critical and popular international successes, produced worldwide and translated into 35 languages. She has written seven plays: CONVERSATIONS AFTER A BURIAL, THE PASSAGE OF WINTER, ART, THE UNEXPECTED MAN, LIFE X 3, A SPANISH PLAY, GOD OF CARNAGE, HOW YOU TALK THE GAME; and 6 novels: HAMMERKLAVIER, UNE DESOLATION (DESOLATION),  ADAM HABERBERG,  DANS LA LUGE D'ARTHUR SCHOPENHAUER,  NULLE PART,  and L'AUBE, LE SOIR OU LA NUIT (DAWN, DUSK OR NIGHT).  Her films include LE PIQUE-NIQUE DE LULU KREUTZ, directed by Didier Martiny and CHICAS, written and directed by the author.

Jeri Lynn Schulke (Director)

Jeri Lynn is an actor, director, producer, and co-founder of RedBird Theater Company. She received her MFA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and has appeared in productions throughout the Triangle. She led five seasons at ArtsCenter Stage as the Producing Artistic Director, and another five years at PlayMakers Rep as the Education & Engagement Manager. Directing/producing credits include WITCH (Raleigh Little Theater), APPROPRIATE (NRACT), ART (RedBird), SPRING AWAKENING (Kenan Theater Company), Kate Hamill’s PRIDE & PREJUDICE (Raleigh Little Theater), SMALL MOUTH SOUNDS (Honest Pint), THE TAMING (Justice Theater Project); BONNIE AND CLYDE (NRACT); PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE, BRIGHT STAR, CABARET, BYE BYE BIRDIE (PlayMakers’ Summer Youth Conservatory); 10 BY 10 IN THE TRIANGLE, OH!
